Sagada- A Hidden Gem

Image
Sagada is where I truly began to fall in love with the Philippines. Located about 3 hours by bus from Banaue and about 5 hours by bus from Baguio City, Sagada is in the Mountain Province of the Philippines, with a population of approximately 11,000 people. Compared to most areas in the Philippines, where it is hot and humid almost all year round, Sagada is usually cold and rainy, making it unique to the country's familiar weather. It is also home to one of the best (and also most expensive) Kopi Luwak coffee in the world. Kopi Luwak is coffee that includes partially-digested coffee beans, eaten and defecated by the Asian palm civet. It is said that the civet chooses to eat only the best coffee beans. As unappealing as it sounds, the Kopi Luwak in Sagada recently won a prestigious international award, establishing it as one of the best worldwide. In addition to all these amazing things, Sagada is home to many fun attractions that aren't flowing with tourists, making the experi...

Why you MUST visit the Banaue Rice Terraces

Image
Hey readers! Before I talk about the Banaue Rice Terraces, I would like to address that I am currently on "travel break" as I have recently begun my university studies. However, as the end of the exams period is fast approaching, I will be posting much more of my travels and will attempt at maintaining an active blog. Without further ado, here is why you MUST visit the Banaue Rice Terraces in the Philippines:  Up in northern Luzon, the largest island in the Philippines, in the Ifugao region, exists what some people consider to be the "Eighth Wonder of the World"- the Banaue Rice Terraces. These terraces were carved into the mountains of Ifugao by ancestors of the indigenous people (the collective name of groups who inhabit the mountainous part of the Philippines), and the common conception is that they were built mainly by hand , making it more unique than the other rice terraces in the world ! To this day, locals continue to plant rice and vegetab...

5 reasons why you should skip Manila

Allow me to start off by saying that this is my first time in the Philippines. I have friends who have traveled and lived in this country in the past, so I did have some people to refer to regarding my trip. I wrote down a lot of valuable information, including the widely agreed upon suggestion to skip the capital city, Manila. At first, I was a bit skeptical, as this is the capital of the country. Imagine landing in France and skipping Paris- how could someone not visit the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre ? Fast forward a few months later, and upon landing in Manila, I understood why they were so against this place.  Here are 5 reasons why you should absolutely waste no time in Manila in order to explore the rest of this beautiful country: 1.  Heavy traffic  - Unless you plan on traveling very late at night or the early morning, you will most likely experience the heavy traffic this city has to offer. I landed at around 22:30 at Ninoy Aquino Airport, and from t...
